Well, RWD cars suck at driving in the ice and 300 odd hp doesnt help either. I would have posted it earlier but its just been crazy. Here is a small pic of where I got stuck with several other cars. Last I counted. Got stuck with 20 other cars, two tow trucks, two MARTA buses, and a Winnebago.

Should have bought some decent tires/chains. The car is fine in the snow if you can get traction and not mash the accelerator. The only issue is the same with most sports cars, clearance. Just don't hit any snow build up that's too tall.

Here we see the Genesis outside of its natural environment. It is unfamiliar with this habitat as a whole, as it panics when it tries to flee. Its wide tires and powerful engine do not make for optimal usage in these conditions. Rather than continue to use its energy to find shelter, it simply gives up, somehow knowing by instinct that the habitat will soon turn back to relatively livable conditions.

Snow tires/chains make a whole lot of sense in Atlanta.

Drove down roads identical to this yesterday in my AWD Subaru shod with winter tires. I hardly even noticed the roads were icy.

Hope you get your car home safely soon. :D

It rarely gets close to freezing in Atlanta. It makes no economic sense to do this when you live there.

Lol. Watching this guy at my job try to go up a tiny hill in the parking lot with his turbo Genesis Coupe was one of the funniest things ever. 20 minutes and two coworkers pushing got him up though. It was like *Vroooom vroooooooooom* *Tire screech* *BOV PSSHHHHHH*.

Obviously they do... people blame being unprepared on things simply not happening often. This isn't a freak occurrence it happens from time to time. In the past people didn't have huge issues because they were prepared, now people have nothing ready and just wait in the government to come in and solve it for them. Same thing happening right now with California's cyclical drought.

Chains cost almost nothing. You should just generally have them in cars. Snow tires can be ordered at the beginning of winter and had within a week.

Tires would dry rot before getting used more than once...

Lol, I wish I still had mine and connected to my car. I was one of the lucky ones and got stuck early and close to my final destination. So I stayed with my car, pushed it to the side, and then helped people get up the hill till about 9 at night before walking to keep myself warm.

Well then you get stuck/freeze. Just because something only happens every 10, 20, or 40 years doesn't mean you just pretend it's not there. That's like buying a house in a 30 year flood plain and then complaining it floods because you couldn't be bothered to dig drainage or have sandbags available.

There is nothing wrong with the car, the problem was a lack of preparedness.

Freezing temps and ice are nothing new to ATL. I've spent enough time in Atlanta to know this

Of course there is nothing wrong with the car, but if you're on a budget, you can't always afford two sets of tires. And when you live in the South, there are much bigger things to spend money on. Even if he knew that snow was coming, winter tires would have cost him at the minimum $300 to buy and install, and that's a lot of money to spend for a single snowstorm. And then when the next snow storm comes, your winter tires have dry rotted and you'll need a new set because it's been 10 years since the last event.

What's the weight distribution? If it's near 50/50 then you can't really blame the drive wheels.

That's why I also said chains. At a minimum there should be chains, but tires would have been even better. He was trying to blame the car or drive layout for him not having proper equipment.

Those are all excuses.

Ok, so you're on a budget. I get it. But dude is driving a brand new car... And regardles of where you live, it doesn't mean there are much bigger things to spend your money on aside from your own safety. So it's $300 for a new set of winter tires that he might only use for 2 months out of the year, but he can use for the next 5 years (minimum) if stored properly. Either spend $300 now for proper traction or risk crashing your car (deductible is likely more than $300) or not getting home and having to sleep in your car. You pick. I know which one I would...

We get posts in here all of the time about people in the Northeast not buying proper snow tires and not being properly prepared because of costs, not giving a fuck, etc., so why on earth do we expect someone in Atlanta to shell out $500 for a set of snow tires/wheels to use maybe once every other year? You can make the argument that chains are cheap and effective, and you're not wrong, but that also requires an amount of forethought and preparation to have them at the ready when the time comes, which is something that people that deal with winter weather on a regular basis oftenstruggle with.

It just makes so much more sense to call one or two days every couple of years a loss and stay off the roads (as the OP did), than to go through the expense to be massively overprepared.

The smugness was played out after about 3 hours of coverage of the situation.

I said chains or tires. His choice. Chains are anywhere from $25 to $50 depending on where you want to get them and NO ONE unless on a tropical island shouldn't have them. I prefer to just buy tires when I see what the Almanac/forcasts are looking like, but I also keep chains around. Generally we never need to buy snow/studded tires... but that doesn't mean I don't have chains around.

I don't live in a region that gets snow regularly, but everyone around here keeps chains in their garage. Even my friends in ARIZONA keep chains in their car/garage. It is not too much to expect people to be responsible for themselves.

Here, I'll even give you a link to some basic ones. When the first warning of ice/snow came 3+ weeks ago, this should have been the first thing people checked in their vehicle bags, along with flares, break down kit, spare, etc.

Considering the rest of the country did fine, and people have been dealing with weather like this for hundreds of years, my sample size is greater than yours. In fact, since historically this hasn't been a critical issue it would seem this is a failure of relatively modern ideas/concepts. I know for a fact Atlanta has had snow at least a couple other times just since 1996 because I have seen it and have had friends/family send pictures.

This is not the first time this has ever happened and it's not the last. Stop playing the victim card and buy some damn chains.

Then you shouldn't be making an argument against telling someone to not blame the car for them lacking proper equipment.
